Our Story

The Peoples Cause began as a grassroots Facebook group in late 2020, founded by Jessica Erven in the wake of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing. With democracy feeling increasingly fragile, Jessica put out a call to action, mobilizing her network to protest injustices within the U.S. Supreme Court.

The response was overwhelming. Within days, over 500,000 Americans from every state and territory had joined the group, united by a shared mission to protect democracy and demand accountability. Recognizing the momentum, Jessica recruited a team of friends and new allies to lead this rapidly growing community.

Just weeks later, the group formalized as a 501(c)(4) called Future March. Aligning with organizations like the Women’s March, Future March rallied hundreds of thousands of protesters to marches across the nation and around the world on October 17, 2020.

Following the success of these protests, Future March turned its attention to the 2020 election. Determined to help flip key congressional seats and secure the Presidency, the group partnered with “get out the vote” organizations to amplify voter engagement efforts. By running events, supporting candidates, and raising awareness on critical issues, Future March contributed to the historic victories of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and a wave of Democratic candidates in Congress.

When Donald Trump refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power, Future March joined the Protect the Results coalition—comprising over 200 progressive organizations like Indivisible, Planned Parenthood, and MoveOn—to demand accountability. Despite the challenges, including the violent insurrection on January 6, 2021, democracy prevailed, and the transfer of power was completed.

The events of 2020 inspired Future March to evolve. Under the leadership of Andrew Scheck, the group expanded its focus in 2021 to become a digital advocacy powerhouse. With a renewed mission centered on voter rights, suppression awareness, and civic education, the coalition grew by another 50,000 members, continuing to champion democracy between election cycles.

In 2024, following Donald Trump’s re-election, the organization restructured to meet the urgency of the moment. Rebranding as The Peoples Cause (TPC), we transformed into a nationwide, action-first, non-partisan coalition. Our focus shifted to empowering working-class Americans by mobilizing local communities to drive meaningful change on issues like labor rights, affordable housing, and healthcare access.

Today, The Peoples Cause is stronger than ever. With over 600,000 members and 27+ chapters across the country, we believe that real progress starts in our communities. Together, we’re building a future rooted in the values that make us proud to be Americans—equity, opportunity, and solidarity.
